Dogs maintained at their optimal/ ideal weight in a Massey study lived up to two years longer and suffered less osteoarthritis, diabetes, and other degenerative diseases.

Premium brand diets and prescription diets


For all your pet nutrition needs, WellPet offer and recommend several premium brand diets for cats and dogs - Hills, Royal Canin and Eukanuba (and we can procure any other brand on the market if you have particular requirements).

If you aren’t sure what you should be feeding your pet, talk to a Wellpet vet or vet nurse for information on cat and dog nutrition products and diets that will benefit your pet’s health.

We also supply what are known as prescription diets, mainly Hills Prescription diets but also Eukanuba and Royal Canin. These diets are specifically formulated and used for pet patients with specific health problems where through diet we are able to improve their wellbeing and better support other treatments.

An example of a prescription diet is Hills m/d for the diabetic cat. This diet reduces our insulin dose levels required to control DM as it is specifically formulated for the diabetic cat.

Specific diets are available for kidney failure, liver failure, heart failure, cancer support, food allergies including elimination diets, to support vomiting and diarrhoea, cats with bladder problems and bladder stones, and more.

WellPet offers a FREE weight control clinic called Weigh Well which is for pets that need a little assistance with weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight!

This animal weight loss programme is run by our veterinary nurses in conjunction with Hills and Eukanuba using Prescription weight loss food - its aim is to transform your chubby pet from overweight to an ideal body weight over a period of months. How does my pet get on the Weigh Well programme?
Veterinarians identify candidates and initially establish if you are interested in participating with your pet.

What happens during a Weigh Well session?
A WellPet veterinary nurse discusses nutrition and exercise, measures and weighs your pets precisely, and then plans a programme and follow-up plan for weigh-ins and ongoing nutritional changes as required.
